Recreation and Development

The first level of skill is the Recreation/Developmental level.  These players are often just getting their feet on the pitch and learning the basics of soccer; kick, pass, no hands.  This level does not utilize a “tryout” to determine the team, but instead players are placed on a team based on age-group, gender, and team openings/availability.
The “away” matches are typically within thirty minutes of Farmington.
  • Recreation players will register for a team for the fall season and for the spring season
  • The makeup of a recreation level team may change from season to season

Select Players

The Select teams comprise of players who have been “selected” by a coach during the annual tryout weekend (typically the weekend immediately following the closure of area public schools; mid-June).  Players come to Founders Fields for two-hour sessions on Saturday and Sunday and the coaches will evaluate the players capabilities and the needs of their teams. The “away” matches may be ninety minutes from Farmington.
  • Select players are chosen for the team during tryouts (June)
  • Select players will register a single time for an entire soccer year (fall and spring seasons)
  • The makeup of a Select team is often relatively stable

Premier Players

Players in the u13 (and above) age-groups begin playing on the “full sized” fields in 11v11 format and a “higher” level of competition becomes available.  Players are still required to participate in the tryout weekend and must be selected by the coach to be a member of the team.  Then, it is up to the coach to determine if the skill level of the team is high enough, or if the commitment of the team (and families) is great enough, to participate at the Premier level.
The “away” matches can be almost anywhere within Michigan.
  • Premier players are chosen for the team during tryouts (June)
  • Premier players will register a single time for an entire soccer year (fall and spring)
  • The makeup of a Premier team is often relatively stable
