Farmington Soccer Club

Anthony Penner

Team: U11 Girls Select
Years Coaching: 8 years
Coaching Philosophy:
To create a fun and challenging environment on the soccer field that encourages player development, teaches technical skills, good sportsmanship, and teamwork.  My goal is for my players to be competitive, humble and have respect for others.  As a coach I strive to instill good values for my players to carry into other aspects of their lives moving forward.  My coaching style is to motivate and encourage my players and help them learn from their mistakes.

David Anderson

Team: '00 Fusion
Coaching Experience:  State "D" License; coaching since 2010, Club President since 2014
Coaching Philosophy:  I believe that my players should be winded and smiling at the end of every practice and at the conclusion of every game.  Sportsmanship - the high-fives for good plays, the encouragement of teammates, and the recognition of abilities and play, is what I teach throughout the season.  Every player gets onto the field where they can make their opportunities to excel at their position.  Every player is important to our team.  The team strives for goals and wins, but our first objective is player involvement.  Games are for playing.

Duraid George

Teams: Fury 00 RED - U16 Boys
Coaching License: USSF “D”
Years Coaching: 10+ YearsHigh School, College Player, and Semi-Pro -  Dallas, Texas Local Club Player - Michigan-Ontario Soccer League
Coaching Philosophy: Soccer is a mental game.  Every touch, move, dribble, pass, shot or play is the result of a thought process, and should not be a mere reaction; and that's what a coach should focus on in training a young player and the team. Foot skills are the result of endless hours of training and hard work, some of which can be done at practice or training session, but most should be done alone: just the player and a ball.

Soccer is the only sport, and one of very few things a person does, that involves the use of someone's feet.  To train a youngster's brain and body to use the feet in lieu of the hands in handling the ball is the essence of this sport, and it takes a dedicated training effort to develop this extraordinary skill.  Nothing sums up this better than this quote by the standout Irish player, Roy Keane: 'I don’t believe skill was, or ever will be, the result of coaches.  It is a result of a love affair between the child and the ball.'

Finally, my main objectives are to teach the young ones to learn and love the game, hopefully play for their high school one day, and enjoy the Beautiful Game for life!

Dave Wallace

Teams: U9 Boys Select and U11 Boys Select
Coaching Experience: He began coaching in England about 5 years ago, and holds an FA Level 1 + Child Protection + First Aid certificate.
Soccer Experience: Dave played in England, competing at the high school, college and semi-pro level.
Coaching Philosophy: Dave is a very animated coach, and has been known to throw a hat (or two) during a match. The players respond to his enthusiasm for the game, and enjoy playing for him. His favorite words are “Brilliant!” “Superb” and “Unlucky.” Dave lives in Farmington Hills with his lovely soccer-widow wife, Lu, three boys and a dog.

John Alsfasser

Teams: U9 Boys Select and U11 Boys Select
Coaching Experience: John coached at the city rec level for a number of years. When kids were placed on his city rec team, they rarely left – choosing to play for John again and again instead of playing for their school teams.
Coaching Philosophy: In addition to being a fantastic technical coach, John’s strength is how well he knows each player – what they need to work on, what they excel at, and their personality. He tailors his coaching style to whichever player he is working with. The longer he coaches soccer, the more European John becomes – don’t be surprised if he starts talking about the shape of the ‘pitch’ at the last ‘match.’
